The ABBUC web server was hacked and infected with malware. It is now physically removed from the network and no longer goes online because the installed software is too old and can no longer be freed from the malware found with reasonable effort.
We are not entirely unprepared, but a little too early at this point. Since the beginning of 2020 we have been looking for ways to get a secure, modern system up and running and have already set up a test server on which various scenarios such as updating the current software were tested. Since the board of directors has legal responsibility, we looked for a solution that focused on security, GDPR compliance and updatability. We were close to the beta test phase, where more members should be involved. That must now be accelerated. In order to keep the downtime as short as possible, we will now first work on getting the forum up and running again as soon as possible.
The technical basis was almost ready, due to the time pressure that had now arisen, the basis was completed with increased personal commitment.
The new forum will, however, start from „zero“, as the transfer of all data turned out to be too time-consuming and dangerous. The “old” forum is secured, however, and as soon as the new server is up and running, we will rid the data of malware and put it online in “read-only status”.
Technical help is currently not required. If you can and would like to help with the content, send an email to internet (at) abbuc de. Since we now have to act quickly and in a targeted manner, we cannot answer every email immediately, but focus on the things that are necessary to get back online quickly.
In order to make the site as modern and future-proof as possible, we have to lay a secure foundation. The site will then „grow“ with you.
